Speed The Light Gives Magnolia Campus New Van

The Magnolia Men’s Campus would like to shout out a big THANK YOU to Speed the light!  Speed The Light recently donated a new eleven passenger van!  This provides the Magnolia men’s campus with a reliable vehicle to transport our Adult & Teen Challenge of Texas students and to disciple others into relationship with the Lord.

Speed the Light Van

Speed the light (STL) began in 1944 through the National Youth Ministries department of the Assemblies of God as a way to give youth the opportunity to help missionaries spread the gospel message to the lost.  STL is the student-initiated, volunteer, charitable program that provides much-needed equipment to those on the front lines of ministry.  Since its beginning, STL has raised over $253 million for missionary equipment around the world  By providing essential and reliable transportation, ministries like Adult & Teen Challenge of Texas can better fulfill the Great Commission and speed the light of the gospel to a world in darkness.

Thank You

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Join the Movement & Give Back

We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals.  Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back.  On Tuesday, December 1, 2015, people around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.

Adult & Teen Challenge of Texas is excited to be a part of this year’s #GivingTuesday.  On this amazing day of generosity, we hope to raise support for our programs and spread the word about our ministry.  Did you know in Texas alone there are nearly 1.5 million people over 17 years old living with alcohol or illicit drug dependency or abuse?  We need your help to reach them!

It’s a simple idea.  Your family, community, company all come together to give back on one day.  Share your successes and encourage others to be a part of this new trend of giving back.  Remember to tag your successes on social media with the hashtag #GivingTuesday.

Alexa: A New Creation

Alexa.HoustonHello, my name is Alexa.  I was raised in a family that may have been portrayed by some people as the “all American dream”.  We attended church every Sunday, owned a beautiful home, and went on amazing vacations to Florida each year.  The reality was that my mother and father were abusive to each other daily, in plain view of me and my younger sisters.

At the age of ten, I started smoking and drinking.  At the age or 27, I chose to have an abortion.  After the abortion, I started smoking crack cocaine.  One and a half years later I was pregnant, and abortion was not an option.  I gave birth to my first daughter.  Then I had my second daughter and began developing a relationship with God.  I was very active in church and I developed good Christian relationships.  Then I fell, hard and became addicted to drugs.  I ended up prostituting to support my $300.00 a day habit while living under a bridge.

Our God is a God of Restoration and He is faithful.

My mom recommended Adult & Teen Challenge of Texas (ATCOT) and I agreed to go.  ATCOT has changed not only my life, but my family’s life.  Our God is a God of restoration and He is faithful.  I am building a relationship with Him based on a solid foundation that I could only have achieved by coming to ATCOT.  Being at ATCOT has taught me to be still and hear His voice.

3rd Phase-Employed with a fresh start

Adult & Teen Challenge of Texas is a 12 month program.  In the first phase, students acclimate to campus life, learn fundamentals of Christian faith, and develop a work ethic.  In the second phase, students develop life skills and mature in their Christian faith.  In the final third phase of the program, students gain employment and develop a strategy for transition back into the community. This last phase of the program also provides Christian discipleship classes, counseling, and essential educational tools, such as Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University materials, which teaches men and women how to create and live by a budget.  The transitional living facilities for the third phase include a men’s campus in Brenham, and women’s campuses in San Antonio and Houston.

Our Adult & Teen Challenge of Texas staff and leaders are doing an amazing job at our transitional living facilities to help our students in their last phase.  Once the students complete the third phase of the program, they are invited back to their original campus for a celebration and graduation ceremony.  Often, directors and staff from other campuses will drop by the third phase transitional living campuses to lift-up, pray for, and encourage the students.

San Antonio Men’s Director, Floyd Miles, III went to visit his San Antonio students who recently entered into the third phase at the Brenham men’s transitional living campus.  Miles said, “I spent the day at the Brenham campus.  I went there to encourage and check up on the San Antonio guys.  All of the guys are gainfully employed and attending their home church.  We have about 22 students from the San Antonio campus.  We praise the Lord for these changed lives.”

A New Creation: Elizabeth

I grew up believing my dad didn’t want me.  I struggled with low self-esteem.  I started drinking from the age of 15 to 34.  Then I got court ordered to Adult & Teen Challenge of Texas.  Since I have been in this program, my life has changed.  God has given me a reason to live and has taught me to surrender my life to Him.  Thank you Teen Challenge.
