3 generations played in the San Antonio Golf Tournament

Seth Porters familyOn September 28th, the San Antonio campus held their annual Adult & Teen Challenge of Texas Golf Tournament.  It was a beautiful day on the golf course.  For one of the students and his family this tournament was more than just a game of golf.  They were celebrating a miracle that God had done in one man’s life.  From shooting heroine to playing a game of golf, Seth and his father, grandmother, and great-uncle, and sister came to play at the San Antonio golf tournament this week.  The days of addiction are over.  Today Seth is a new creation in Christ and set free from drugs.  Three generations from his family came to celebrate what God is doing in Seth’s life and to play in the tournament to support the program that has changed Seth’s life.

“Hello, my name is Seth.  In the weakest moment of my life, God’s love and power became a reality when He saved me from my addiction.  Since coming to Adult & Teen Challenge of Texas and truly submitting to God’s will, He has given me a peace and joy over my life that I have never experienced.  I do not ever want to let go of this joy,” said ATCOT student Seth.

Adult & Teen Challenge of Texas would like to say “thank you” to everyone who was a sponsor and who participated in this tournament.  We appreciate you.

2015 Leaky Retreat Stirs New Passion for Jesus

The students and staff from every campus at Adult & Teen Challenge of Texas recently came back from the annual 2015 Leakey Retreat at the HEB campgrounds near Leakey, Texas. They had fun participating in a variety of activities all week including: swimming in the river, canoeing, playing in the basketball and softball tournaments, and just enjoying the peaceful sounds of nature in their quiet devotional time with the Lord.

Surrounded by the Lord’s beautiful creation, this was a spiritual time for renewal and revival, as well as a time to search one’s heart and get right with God. Daily messages were presented by staff and friends of the ministry in the open pavilion overlooking the river. The encouraging and powerful words from each speaker spoke to the essence of each person.

The Holy Spirit was present at each service as the Lord tugged on the hearts of the men and women at Adult & Teen Challenge of Texas. Several people gave their hearts to Jesus for the very first time. Many others rededicated their lives to the Lord. When they repented of their sins, Jesus forgave them. Their old flesh died and a new creation rose up.  Toward the end of the week more than 67 students were baptized in the river.

The Lord was doing some amazing things in the lives of the students at this retreat. Many were learning to let go and lay down their addictive behaviors while running to the cross and allowing God to do miracles in their lives, heal their broken hearts, and bring restoration to their families.

Thank you HEB for making this retreat possible.

New Creation: Jetty

Hello, my name is Jetty.  I was raised in Dallas, in a very abusive home. I started using drugs at an early age.  All of my friends and cousins smoked pot and I thought it was really cool.  By the time I started High School I was using any kind of drug I could get a hold of.

Later I got married, but my wife divorced me because she wanted to live a better life without drugs.  My problems only got worse after the divorce.  Depression overwhelmed me and I quickly spiraled downhill.  I ended up in prison and decided to give my life to Christ.  But I didn’t have the tools I needed to stay clean and keep God in my life.

I landed back in jail, but I knew I had to do something different with my life.  I asked God to help me.  I then got in touch with Adult & Teen Challenge of Texas.  I never had joy in my heart before. I never thought I was worthy of love, let alone God’s love.  Teen Challenge has given me the tools I need to carry Jesus into the workplace and allow Him to direct all aspects of my life for His glory.  Thank you Jesus and thank you Teen Challenge.
